2. What we receive
The app is free to install and free to use for seven days. To unlock it afterwards you buy it inside the app, and that payment is handled entirely by Samsung: your card, billing address and Samsung account never reach us. The only thing we keep is the day the trial started. Whether you have bought the app is answered by Samsung against your own Samsung account whenever the television asks; we do not store that answer, so there is no purchase record on our server.
| Data | What it is | Why | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Device number | A random value the app generates on first run. It is not your television's serial number, MAC address or any hardware identifier, and it is not linked to your name or your Samsung account. The row below is the only thing attached to it. | To connect the phone you are pairing to the right television, and to count requests per device so one device cannot flood the service. It is not used to find your backup: that is located by your recovery code, so a backup can be restored on a different television. | Until you ask us to delete it. Removing the app also destroys the number, because it lives only on the television. |
| Trial start | The day the free trial began, held against the device number above. Nothing else: no card details, no billing address, nothing from your Samsung account, and no record of whether you bought the app. | To count the seven days. Because the device number lives only on the television, removing the app and installing it again starts a fresh count. We could prevent that by tying the trial to your television's serial number or your Samsung account, and we have chosen not to. | Thirty days after the trial ends, or sooner if you ask. |
| IP address | Processed while your request is in flight. What we store is an irreversible cryptographic digest of it, never the address itself. | To stop one source flooding the service with requests. | Short-lived rate-limiting counters only. |
3. Titles you open
When you open the details of a film or a series, the app asks our server for a description and for similar titles. The title is sent for this. The answer is stored under a key derived from the title itself and is shared with everyone who opens the same film, so no record is created linking you to what you opened. The same applies to the category names used to work out age ratings, and to the sample of catalogue titles used to group your library into themes.
These requests are answered with the help of a language model operated by Anthropic, acting as our processor. Only the titles described above are sent to it. Your device number is not.
4. What never reaches us
- What you watch. Your viewing history, where you stopped watching and your favourites are kept on the television. The recommendations you see are calculated on the device itself.
- Your playlist password. It is never included in a backup. When you add a playlist from your phone, it is encrypted on your phone and can only be opened by your television; our server relays a block of data it cannot read.
- Your parental PIN. It never leaves the television, not even inside a backup.
- Your name, e-mail address, telephone number, postal address, date of birth, gender, location, contacts, photographs — the app never asks for these and never sends them.
We do not use advertising identifiers, we do not show advertising, and we do not sell or share your data with anyone for their own purposes.
5. Backups are encrypted on your television
If you use the backup feature, your settings, favourites, watch history and custom groups are encrypted on the television before they are uploaded. The key is a recovery code generated on your device and shown to you once. It is never transmitted to us and is not stored inside the backup.
The consequence is deliberate: if you lose the recovery code, the backup cannot be opened — not by you and not by us. We could only offer to recover it by holding the key ourselves, which would mean holding your personal data in readable form.
6. Legal basis
- Performance of a contract — the device number, without which the backup and phone pairing features you asked for cannot work.
- Legitimate interests — the rate-limiting digest and the title lookups described in section 3, in order to keep the service running and to show a description on the details page.
We do not rely on consent, because we do not carry out any processing that would need it. We do not build a profile of you on our servers.
7. Who else is involved
- Cloudflare, Inc. — hosts the server and stores the data described in section 2, as our processor.
- Anthropic PBC — answers the title requests in section 3, as our processor.
- Samsung Electronics — operates the store and takes the payment. The purchase happens between you and Samsung; we ask Samsung only whether a given purchase is valid, and receive no card, billing or account details in return. Samsung's own privacy policy applies to that part.
These providers may process data outside your country. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an equivalent mechanism.
8. Your rights
You may ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing, or ask for it in a portable form. Write to PRIVACY_EMAIL is not set and we will answer within one month.
To identify your record we need the device number, which you can read in the app under Settings → Diagnostics. You may also complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live.
9. Children
The app is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them. The app provides a PIN-protected parental lock and age-based category filtering, which an adult can switch on.
10. Content
Best IPTV Player is a media player only and does not provide any content. It is not affiliated with any content provider and does not endorse the use of illegal content sources. To watch anything, you must add your own playlists. Any paid upgrade unlocks application features only; it does not include, or provide access to, any channels, streams, or media content.
11. Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it and the current version is always at this address.
